The 411 on Sculptra

Posted on February 21, 2017

As we age, our bodies begin to lose collagen, a structural component that keeps skin looking youthful. Sculptra® works to replace lost collagen in the skin over time to correct unwanted wrinkles and folds, resulting in a more youthful-looking appearance for up to two years.

What is Sculptra®?

Sculptra® is an FDA-approved injectable treatment to soften the appearance of smile lines, marionette lines, and chin wrinkles. Made of poly-L-lactic acid, it works by stimulating collagen growth, helping to restore lost facial volume and reduce the appearance or wrinkles and folds over time.

What to Expect with Sculptra®

Your Sculptra® journey will begin with a consultation with one of our board-certified dermatologists. During your consultation, you will be able to ask any questions you have, as well as go over the procedure and what to expect. During the procedure, Sculptra® will be injected into the dermis, where collagen lives. Patients may see an immediate difference, though more dramatic results will begin to appear over time. Patients typically receive three injections over three months for best results.

Sculptra® Results

Sculptra® works gradually within the skin, so patients commonly begin to see results four to six weeks after treatment. Results will then gradually improve for up to 12 months. Effects can last up to two years.

The Side Effects of Sculptra®

Common side effects associated with Sculptra® include redness, swelling, tenderness, bruising, itching, and lumps. These effects are usually mild and will resolve with time. Makeup can be applied a few hours after treatments to conceal any redness. If side effects seem to worsen or do not dissipate, contact CDAM right away.
