At the Center for Dermatology and Aesthetic Medicine, we are proud to offer some of the latest laser technologies, including the advanced Picosure laser treatment. This innovative treatment is ideal for patients with melasma and can help patients reduce unwanted pigment on all different skin types and tones.

What is Picosure?
Picosure is a unique laser treatment that’s perfect for addressing and treating melasma and pigmentation issues, especially for people of color and those with darker skin types. It is one of the few lasers FDA-approved for melasma treatment, making it an excellent choice for those struggling with this persistent skin condition. Beyond pigmentation concerns, this laser treatment can also address acne scars and fine lines and wrinkles like crow’s feet, lipstick lines, and smoker’s lines, giving you a flawless and more youthful complexion. Additionally, it can be used for overall skin brightening and rejuvenation, addressing textural concerns such as acne scars and fine lines.
How Does Picosure Work?
Picosure uses ultra-short pulses of light to create a photo-acoustic effect that helps to remove unwanted pigment and improve skin quality. Because of the multiple wavelengths, the treatment can target specific areas without damaging the surrounding skin. As the laser comes in contact with the skin, it triggers the body’s natural healing process and stimulates collagen and elastin production, breaking up and erasing the pigmented skin cells and replacing them with rejuvenated skin cells for a smoother, radiant, and more youthful appearance.
What to Expect with Picosure Treatment
Picosure treatment can take anywhere from 20-30 minutes, depending on the size of the treatment area. We will apply the Picosure handpiece to the targeted areas. After treatment, you may have some redness, mild swelling, and tingling sensation, but those side effects typically subside within a few days. To ensure the best results, you’ll want to regularly apply sunscreen, apply cool compresses, and use a gentle cleanser. While you may see some results in the few days after treatment, it can take 2-3 weeks after your first session to see the full improvements. Most patients require multiple treatment sessions to achieve optimal results.
