What is AviClear?

Acne is the single most common skin condition in the United States. If you’ve been struggling with acne, you know how defeating it can be. Acne most commonly affects teenagers, but it can last throughout your adult years. AviClear is one exciting new treatment option for acne patients of all ages and skin types and can achieve clearer, smoother skin with long-term results. Here’s what to know about AviClear and how our team can help you achieve your best skin yet at the Center for Dermatology and Aesthetic Medicine.

What is AviClear?

AviClear is a light-based laser platform that is safe and effective for all skin types. It requires no prescription medications or drugs and can target acne at the source with quick and easy treatments – and unlike other options like chemical peels or prescription-grade products, it comes with minimal side effects.

How Does AviClear Work?

The underlying cause of acne is the overproduction of oil (sebum) in the pores of the skin (sebaceous glands). A combination of sebum, debris, and dead skin cells can become trapped in the pores and cause a reaction by the skin – or what we know as acne. AviClear works by targeting the pores and reducing the production of sebum by sebocytes, or specialized cells that exist in the skin. By reducing sebum production, AviClear can reduce the frequency and intensity of both active and future breakouts.

What Happens During AviClear Treatment?

AviClear is a quick and easy treatment performed right at our Chicago-area office. Your skin will be cleansed and prepared by our team before the specialized handpiece is applied to the area. Most patients describe AviClear as a light “snapping” sensation but it’s otherwise not painful. It also includes a unique cooling technology to prevent heat buildup during treatment. Once the whole area is treated, you can return to your normal schedule.

What Results Can I Expect?

AviClear comes with virtually no downtime. In fact, it also produces minimal side effects unlike other acne treatments like retinols. Although it’s normal to experience some redness and slight purging after treatment, you can return to your normal activities.

AviClear typically requires a package of three treatments spaced about 2-4 weeks apart. This is a much shorter commitment than retinols which can require use for several months. AviClear produces long-term results, but you can easily return for maintenance treatments as needed. With AviClear, you can enjoy smoother, clearer skin without the side effects that come with traditional acne treatments.
